Introduction
The India eVisa application process is straightforward, but small errors and inconsistencies can slow down your application or create problems at the immigration desk. This guide helps you review your application before submitting it, so you can catch and fix any issues while you still have time.
This is not a replacement for the complete application guide or a requirements checklist. Instead, it focuses specifically on what to check and verify during your final review before you hit the submit button.
Start With the Correct Visa Category
Selecting the wrong visa category for your travel purpose is a common inconsistency that can create problems. Before you begin your application, confirm which category matches your actual purpose for visiting India.
The current application system supports three primary visa categories. Choose the one that matches your trip:
Tourist eVisa
This category is for recreation, sightseeing, visiting friends and relatives, or general leisure travel. If your primary purpose is tourism or visiting people you know, select this category.
Business eVisa
This category is for business meetings, conferences, and trade fairs. Use this category only if your trip purpose is business-related and falls within the categories listed in the application system.
Medical eVisa
This category is for medical treatment at Indian hospitals. Use this category only if you are traveling for medical treatment at a recognized Indian medical facility.
Before submission: Verify that your selected category matches the actual purpose of your trip. Selecting the wrong category creates an inconsistency between your stated purpose and your real travel intent.
Confirm Eligibility for the Passport You Will Use
Do not assume you are eligible based on where you live, a previous visa, or another person's application. Eligibility depends on your passport nationality and the specific visa category.
When you begin the application, you provide your nationality. The application system verifies eligibility at that point. Make sure you are applying with the passport you actually plan to use for your India trip.
Before submission: Confirm that the nationality you entered matches the passport you will travel with. If you are a dual citizen or hold multiple passports, ensure you have selected the correct one and will use that same passport when entering India.
Match Application Details to Your Passport Exactly
One of the most common mistakes is entering your name, date of birth, or other details differently from how they appear in your actual passport. Even small differences can create problems.
When you enter personal information, the application asks for:
- Full name (as it appears in your passport)
- Date of birth
- Passport number
- Passport issue date
- Passport expiry date
Any mismatch between what you enter and what is in your actual passport can cause inconsistencies in the application record.
Before submission: Open your actual passport and check each detail you entered word-for-word and number-for-number. Do not use nicknames or shortened versions of your name. If your passport shows "William," use "William," not "Bill." If your date of birth is "03-15-1990," ensure you entered it exactly that way.
Upload the Correct Passport Bio Page
Your Passport Bio Page is the page in your passport that contains your photo and personal information—the first data page of your passport. This page must be clear and readable.
The application requires you to upload a scan or photograph of this specific page. A common mistake is uploading the wrong page, uploading an unclear image, or uploading a page that is cropped or cut off.
Quality checks before submission:
- The entire Passport Bio Page is visible (not cropped, cut off, or rotated)
- All text and numbers are clear and readable
- Your photograph on the page is visible
- No shadows, glare, or lighting issues obscure any information
- The image is in JPG, PNG, or PDF format
- File size is no more than 2MB
If your uploaded image is blurry, partially cropped, or has poor lighting, retake it. Better to upload a clear image on your second try than to have an unclear image processed.
Prepare the Face Photo to Current Requirements
Your Face Photo is the primary identification image used in your visa application. It must meet specific format and appearance requirements.
Photo specifications:
- Recent color photograph (taken within the last 6 months)
- White or light-colored background
- Your face should occupy 50–70% of the frame
- Both eyes clearly visible, looking directly at the camera
- Neutral expression with mouth closed
- No sunglasses, hats, or head coverings (unless for religious reasons)
- JPG or PNG format (PDF is not accepted for photos)
- File size no more than 2MB
Before submission: Check your photo against these requirements. If you're uncertain whether your photo meets the specifications, take a new one. A photo that clearly shows your face with a plain background and neutral expression is always safe.
Check Category-Specific Documents
Depending on your visa category, you may need to upload additional documents beyond your Passport Bio Page and Face Photo.
Business eVisa Applicants
If you selected the Business eVisa category, you must upload:
- Business Invitation Letter: A letter from the Indian company or organization you will be visiting
- Business Name Card: Your business card or company identification document
Before submission: Verify that you have uploaded both documents and that both files are readable and complete.
Medical eVisa Applicants
If you selected the Medical eVisa category, you must upload:
- Hospital Letter: A letter from the Indian hospital or medical institution confirming your appointment or treatment plan
Before submission: Verify that you have uploaded the Hospital Letter and that the file is complete and readable.
Tourist eVisa Applicants
Tourist eVisa applicants typically do not require additional category-specific documents beyond the Passport Bio Page and Face Photo.
Do Not Misinterpret Tourist eVisa Product Labels
If you selected the Tourist eVisa category, you will see three duration options in the application. Each option displays a duration label and an entry label. It is important to understand what these labels mean and not to invent additional meanings.
Current Tourist eVisa options:
- One Month e-Tourist Visa: 30 Days, Double Entry
- One Year e-Tourist Visa: 365 Days, Multiple Entry
- Five Year e-Tourist Visa: 5 Years, Multiple Entry
Common mistake: Do not confuse the duration label with an interpretation of how long you can stay in India per visit. Do not assume "Double Entry" means exactly two visits or that "Multiple Entry" means unlimited trips. The entry labels describe what the application system currently displays—use them exactly as stated in the application, and do not assume additional meanings or mechanics that are not stated.
Similarly, do not convert a duration label into a stay interpretation. A "30 Days" product duration does not necessarily mean you can stay 30 days per visit or that the visa is valid for 30 days from your first entry. Use the product labels exactly as displayed in the application and avoid assumptions about operational mechanics beyond what the application explicitly states.
Before submission: Select the Tourist eVisa product that best matches your travel plans based only on what is stated in the application system. Do not substitute your own interpretation of these labels.
Use the Correct Processing Option
The application offers two processing options:
- Regular Processing: 3–4 working days
- Express Processing: Within 48 hours
A common mistake is selecting the wrong processing option for your travel timeline. If you are traveling soon, you may need Express Processing. If you have more time, Regular Processing is available.
Before submission: Review your travel date and confirm you have selected a processing option that gives you time to receive your eVisa before you travel. If your travel is very soon, Express Processing may be necessary. Do not wait until the last moment to apply—consider your processing choice carefully.
Check Current Fees Instead of Old Prices
Application fees can change. A common mistake is assuming a fee amount from an old article, screenshot, previous conversation, or third-party source without checking the current application.
The most authoritative current fee information is displayed in the application system when you select your visa category and processing option. You can also verify current fees on the visa fees page.
Before submission: Do not rely on a fee amount you saw in a previous email, screenshot, or third-party website. Check the fee shown in your current application before you confirm payment. Visa fee amounts may vary by nationality and processing type, so the fee you see in the application is the one you will pay.
Review Everything Before Submission
The application provides a review step before you submit and pay. This is your last opportunity to catch errors and inconsistencies.
Final review checklist:
- Visa category matches your travel purpose
- All personal details match your passport exactly
- Passport number and dates are correct
- Passport Bio Page upload is clear and readable
- Face Photo meets current requirements
- Category-specific documents are uploaded (if applicable)
- Processing option matches your travel timeline
- Fee amount is current and correct
Take a few minutes during the review step to go through this list. Small fixes now prevent bigger problems later.
